Donald Nxumalo - Designing Africa

Donald Nxumalo is one of Africa’s most influential interior designers, known for designing a range of culturally meaningful luxury homes and hospitality properties that celebrate their locations with an elegant blend of textures, vibrant natural colors, authentic local artworks, and statement pieces. After founding his own Johannesburg-based interior design practice, DNX Studio, he became a household name in 2014 when he won first prize in the inaugural “Win a Home” show on the South African lifestyle and decor TV program Top Billing. Featuring DNX Studio’s first decade (from 2015-2025), and including his most recent works and an insightful conversation held in Johannesburg and Sydney between the designer and the book’s editor, this beautifully illustrated volume presents a selection of 14 interior design projects showcasing: urban living in Johannesburg, coastal living in Cape Town, tropical living in KwaZulu-Natal, life in a mining town in Rustenburg, rural living in Zambia, and suburban living in Zimbabwe. This uniquely groundbreaking title is primarily aimed at art, design, and lifestyle connoisseurs, as well as collectors, architects, and researchers, with various themes also appealing to broader audiences interested in intercultural narratives and African aesthetics and heritage.
