Berlin - a Century Of Change

Through many hitherto unseen images the story of Berlin in the 20th century is told. Documenting the changes in the city from the viewpoint of the activities of its citizens - at work, leisure, protest and politics, or in the home, this book provides a portrait of a city which is again in the process of reinventing itself. A timely reminder of the upheavals, tragedies, and triumphs of the Berlin century, this volume charts the experiences of Berliners from the heyday of pre-war Berlin, through the rise and fall of the Third Reich, post-war structures, and the building and destruction of the Wall. Through the ongoing photographic project of the Archiv für Kunst und Geschichte to document the rebirth of the city, this book also brings us fully up-to-date with images of the current face of the great German capital.
